The Dreamer Behind It All - The Isadora Nim Story

3 Sept 2024

1980's

The Isadora Nim story is a family affair dating back over 40 years ago. It began when a then, young Peter and his family had to flee the Vietnam during the Vietnam war, immigrating to Australia in the early 1980’s. Peters family, who all worked in clothing & textiles back home, utilised their generational knowledge to establish themselves as sewers in clothing manufacturing industry in Melbourne.

1990's

From as early as he can remember, Peter was surrounded by women, design and clothing. He grew up on the factory floor of his Aunt’s clothing factory, which created pieces for iconic Australian brands like Country Road. It was during these early years, surrounded by strong women establishing themselves in a new country, that Peter gained his keen love of fashion and clothing tailory.

2000's

As soon as he could, Peter went on to studying Fashion, where he was again surrounded by budding young men and women looking to be Australia’s next big fashion success. The early 2000’s was an exciting time to be in Australia and in fashion, with Nicole Kidman, Kylie Minogue, Cate Blanchett & Sophie Monk all establishing themselves and Australia on the global stage.

2010's

At university, Peter discovered his passion for tailoring and suit making. It was an obvious next step when master tailors, Eugenio Nicoli asked Peter to join him at his tailors on Bourke Street, in the heart of the Melbourne fashion district and then Head Tailor, Oscar Lake asked Peter to join him at leading Melbourne tailoring house, Oscar Hunt after graduation. Peter learnt about the deeply personal relationship between tailor and client. He was taught how to create the perfect garment for any occasion. Developing made-to-measure suits, shirts and overcoats all individually tailored, but ONLY for men - This was when Peter discovered an opportunity, that also felt like destiny.

2016

After a brief stint at Hemdem in the Armdale, Peter quickly became aware of an unmet demand for a brand specialising in high quality made-to-measure suits exclusively for women. And so in 2016, Isadora Nim was born. The name Isadora is a Greek feminine name blessed with innumerable talents and admirable traits. Nim being an affectionate acknowledgement to Peter’s family and Vietnamese heritage.
